A
very busy Classic Car Show at the NEC,
November 9-10th
2002
The Classic car show at the NEC was one of
the best yet. Pouring rain outside probably helped bring
more visitors and the Club stand was busy all weekend.
We set up on Friday afternoon, and as Sue and I got stuck on the
M6 (4 hours from Kendal to the NEC!) everyone was waiting with their
TVRs when we arrived with a Landrover full of exhibition bits and
pieces. We quickly transferred the banners and postcards destined
for the Lord Mayors Show to Richard Mayohs Tuscan and he set off
for London...
The stand was quickly organised and the banners and marquee put up
before we called it a day. Saturday started bright and early and
we had hardly had time to drink a first cup of coffee when a tidal
wave of visitors poured in. From then on we had a steady stream of
interested and enthusiastic people for the next two days. In all
we had 17 new members sign up, with many more taking forms away with
them to fill in at home.
From what we saw the rest of the show was filled
with many fascinating cars and a huge and very
busy autojumble/trade area. For a change
the book stalls had a good selection of old TVR sales brochures
- I got a great TVR press pack with Griffith,
Chimaera and S series
brochures in a folder for £12 and I believe I heard someone
had picked up a copy of the almost legendary "Success against
the odds" book by Peter Filby. There was also a roaring
trade going on in Micro radio control cars so I guess a lot of
people
may get these as Christmas presents!
At the close of the show at 5.30pm on Sunday we were all ready to
put our feet up. So the stand was packed up as soon as we could manage,
and once we braved the chaos that is the NEC when 3 halls of cars
all try and leave at once we parted company.
Thanks to the owners of the 6 superb TVRs who kindly loaned their
vehicles. 2 x Taimars, 3000M, Vixen, 450SE and S2. To the volunteers
who helped man the stand and to all the people who came to visit
us. A great show - see you next year!
