BNG

After two years of rain for BNG it was time someone smiled on us and boy did they. Thanks to the hundreds of you, who made your way to York for BNG07, sponsored by DriveStyle TVR of Harrogate.

After meticulous planning over the last 9 months it was a joy to see the sun come up on Saturday morning. Approx 120 cars made it to the Racecourse for the morning rumble. The gathering made the local press and John Holden flew the flag at the front of the press photo.

Hot drinks consumed, away the procession went, to the main gathering at Elvington, home to the Yorkshire Air Museum. What a venue! Great stuff to see, a track day providing background noise, hundreds of beautifully polished TVRs with aeroplane backdrops, traders and the chosen charity all present for what was a brilliant day.

Two competitions ran. The first was the loudest TVR, won by Dave Chant in his gorgeous Tuscan Two. I think he ran 128.6 decibels. Funny when the track day next door was limited to 105!  The second was the concours. Several winners here:

BNG

Best M – Ian Renwick;

Best S – defended by David Bruce;

Best Wedge – Peter Jackson;

Best Chimaera/Griffith – Martin McPherson’s Chimaera;

Best Cerbera – Graham Abbott;

Best T350/Tamora – Linda Simpson’s Tamora;

Best Current Model – John Simpson’s Sagaris and finally;

Best in show – Linda Simpson.

On Saturday night  we held a party at La Tasca, in York, where 67 party goers were treated to a tapas buffet and many drinks.

On Sunday the group was split into two drives, one heading north west into Billsdale and the other east toward the Wolds and the Coast. Both groups consisted of around 20 TVRs and were fed at local hotels and after 4 hours behind the wheel, it was time to part company and say goodbye. Amazingly the sun held and by all accounts both the views and roads were magnificent.

The reins of BNG are now handed over to Paul Spensley, RO of the North East region, who has graciously accepted BNG 08. Paul intends to keep a similar format, with perhaps a track day again, and introduce you to some amazing roads.

This is a truly marvellous TVR event. Those who venture up North, from the deep South, compliment it yearly and return, enthused, each year. Next year, why not join them and sample free roads with awesome views? Make BNG really BIG!
