Rob is the newest Regional Organiser in Scotland and has taken over the reins of the newly resurrected West of Scotland region, to complement the Central and Northeast regions. It is a role he is enjoying and he looks forward to the challenge of arranging events and meets where there is something for everyone. However, to paraphrase Shakespeare, it is not an appointment he achieved, but one that was thrust upon him. He would therefore like to thank the current and former Central ROs, Alan Colquhoun and Cameron Brown, for ganging up on him after a few beers during the 2007 Christmas Event at North Berwick.
Having been made very welcome into the TVR Club and having thoroughly enjoyed the cars, the runs, the banter and the social aspect of the club, Rob is keen to promote that ethic in the west. In the summer months, meetings are being held on the evening of the third Thursday in the month at a local venue. Later in the year, this will move to a Saturday or Sunday to enable the meets to take place in daylight hours. Additionally, Rob looks forward to helping to arrange attendance at local shows, such as the recent Culzean Autoclassica (thanks to Les of the Cumbrian club for arranging that this year). He is also keen to work closely with the stalwarts in the other two Scottish clubs and perhaps have more integration with the north of England clubs. One of the favourite events of many members is the Celtic Gathering held jointly with Ireland, alternating in venue each year. Rob is thankful that the Central and West regions have some time before they need to arrange the 2011 Gathering.
Although he was born in England, Rob is thoroughly enjoying his return to the country of his roots. When not polishing his car or planning new flooring for the garage, Rob works in the IT industry and spends much of his time travelling and working abroad. In his current position he spends most of his time between Amsterdam and Edinburgh.
He lives in Paisley, with his partner, Caroline. And it is to his neighbour, Adrian Needham, that Rob attributes his first interest in TVRs. “ I had been considering the various options, particularly a Marcos Ventura, when Adrian introduce me to his gold Chimaera. After that, I was hooked on TVRs and when I test drove the blue Tuscan Mk I which is the car I still have now, it passed the grin factor test.” Rob’s two children come to stay frequently and always hope for a spin in the Tuscan.
Rob would like to urge anyone in the area who has not yet been to a West Scotland meeting to join in and all enquiries are welcome.

Having been aware of TVR as a marque for a long time, I also assumed that I would never be in a position to have one on my drive. I've always had something a little bit different to drive so having run old modified production cars for several years I eventually gave up trying to MIG weld rust to rust and built a kit car instead. My first home built car was a really cheap Se7en replica (if you squinted) which I eventually crashed. Once the insurance paid out I then built kit car number two, A SSC Stylus, (Mini Griff) which gave me about 200 bhp per tonne and was a real point and squirt machine. Having owned it almost 7 years I was looking for something else that was a little bit more practical when a colleague, having seen the Stylus, let me have a drive of his Chimaera 400 and I was hooked from that moment. I needed a TVR and it had to be a V8!
Initially I started looking for a Chimaera however my budget meant either buying a project or blowing the budget by a factor of two which put the whole thing on hold. Then I met Steve Johnson who arrived at a monthly meet in his mint 350i. Being a Child of the 80's I'd always loved the wedge styled cars such as the TR7 and Esprit. It also appealed to me that the wedges are a bit rarer than some of the later V8 models, most of the owners are as barmy as I am and I could get my hands on a reasonable 400SE for the sale value of the Stylus. It all made perfect sense (to me anyway!)
The Mica blue car of which I became guardian in January of this year is by no means perfect, which for me is a good thing, firstly it means I don't have to worry too much about using it in the manner intended and secondly I can put my mechanical skills to good use sorting out those little problems that inevitably crop up when running a 20 year old car.
So while I am relatively new to TVR ownership I've been attending monthly meetings since the East Yorkshire group’s very first meet and in the time I have been associated with the TVRCC family I have made some fantastic new friends and been to some great events.
In September 2010, I stepped up to Primary RO position when Steve retired.

A tale of two Trevors
Technically there have been more than two ‘Trevors’ responsible for this clear obsession with TVR, which led to me proudly accepting the role of Regional Organiser for the North East England Region back in 2006. There are however, two which should take centre stage.
Despite having plain, old ‘John’ as a first name, my Dad has always been known by his middle name of Trevor and in 1982 he started his mid-life crisis by buying a classic TreVoR in the form of a S3 Vixen (KTF 778K) in British Racing Green. After getting my hands on the Vixen and realising just how much better it was than my MG Midget, I was sadly hooked. Whilst I never questioned his taste in cars, after a body-off rebuild and repaint in Nightfire Red, I had to question his taste in colours after powder coating the chassis bright blue.
A relocation to study and live in Newcastle and a subsequent divorce and more carefree approach, led to my first TVR purchase. In at the very deep end with a stunning Starmist Blue Griffith 500 and I lived the dream for a few short months before a damp road and a shortfall of talent proved that these amazing cars can bite the inexperienced! Devastating to hear that this amazing car was written-off.
A 1997 Chimaera in Starmist Grey followed, which took me to my first Le Mans in 2005 and then I was drawn to the dark side. V8 gave way to Speed 6, with a Mk 2 Tuscan 4.0 convertible in unique Lambo Orange. I still think it is the best TVR ever made, even after 4 years of ownership.
A classic 3000M was added to the stable as a restoration project, which will be a labour of love over the next few years. Will it be ready for the 2012 Classic Le Mans?
In classic fashion, I acquired the role of RO for the North East after getting involved helping out the former RO, Don Price, with runs and reports. When Don decided to step back and spend more time shooting things, (legally) I was delighted to take on the role and it’s certainly been an enjoyable experience. Why no secondary RO I hear you ask, well it’s because I get so much help from the members that it seams a shame to formalise things. The North East Region has a great mix of characters all of whom pull together to make this a great region despite the large geographical area and most of all, the aim is to have fun.

I got into the TVR scene early 2006 after purchasing my first TVR (Tuscan) in December 2005. I'd dreamed of owning a one since visiting the TVR stand at the NEC motorshow in the early 1990's where I collected various brochures and postcards.
I had one of the postcards sat on my desk at work for years and told my colleagues "I'll have a TVR one day". They all laughed at the time, but it's me laughing now!
So here I am, now R.O for North Yorkshire and what a privilege it is too. Meeting like minded people and talking about anything associated with TVR. I must admit it's a learning curve for me at times but I'm always happy to help plan weekend run outs and local club meetings alike. So next time you see me at a show, weekend run-out or a club meet come and say hello, it's always good to meet TVR enthusiasts!

I like anything to do with TVRs and because I am an engineer I like to mess
with them too! I confess to not knowing much about the older TVRs and so
rely on others for that.
I own a Cerbera Speed Six and have done since
2001 when I bought it new. Before that I bought a secondhand Chimaera in
1997.
I have been know for my love of gadgets too and also like to take the
odd photo.
I like to use the computer or what ever other gadget I have on me that can get on line.
I like golf and walking but work tends to
get in the way too much of the time for most things.
Oh, and I am the organiser of a small gathering of TVRs at Chatsworth
house, 2008 was the third one.
I have also got a memory like a sieve, so please forgive me if I forget
your name, but I look forward to meeting you all. Do come along to one of our meets and give us a try, we are a friendly bunch.

I have just one regret about TVR ownership. My first encounter with a TVR was following behind a blue Chimaera registration M1TOY near Lincoln in the mid 90’s. Its low stance, ballistic acceleration and awesome noise made me wish I had a toy just like it. As I was in a motor home at the time, it was only a fleeting glimpse as the blue Chim quickly accelerated away into the distance. That memory stayed with me for many years whilst I weighed up the pleasures of owning a TVR against the pain of ownership I was told to expect by friends, family and the motoring press.
Three years ago, I decided to take the plunge. Going one better (IMHO), than the blue Chimaera, I decided that a bright yellow, ’99, 4 litre V8 was for me. Sure, I spent some money in the first few months to make it a reliable and dependable machine and have since gone on to invest further in a new exhaust system, wheels and suspension setup. At the end of the day, the resulting smile from pressing that loud pedal on a sunny, summer’s day with the roof off, is worth far more to me than the number at the end of my bank statement.
Clocking over 15,000 miles in four seasons the Chimarea has been on many TVR car club runs around the open country roads in the North of England and even gave a flawless performance covering 1500 miles to Classic Le Mans and touring Brittany earlier this year.
My wife Carolyn accompanies me on many of the outings with my son Steven and daughter Sarah making appearances when their weekends home coincide with a club event.
My only regret? I should have bought the TVR as least 10 years earlier.

The Regional meets are always held on the 3rd Sunday of the month, from 12pm at The Manor Golf Club in Drighlington, near Bradford. All details are on our website, www.tvrcc-westyorks.co.uk. It’s a cracking venue, offering large car park, food and refreshments, even a personal meeting room! Every TVR nut is welcome.
Primary: Richard Lee
Richard Lee joined the club 3 ½ years ago after he bought a lovely Dark Brown 350i,
which he called NEO (reg was G320 NEO)
He was perusing Ebay for an MGB when he saw NEO at a very reasonable cost and with lots of history. He won the bidding and without ever seeing the car he had it delivered on a transporter.
Luckily Neo was as good as advertised and greatly enjoyed for over 2 years before he sold it to a close friend., enabling him to get another Wedge shaped TVR in the form of a 1990 Mica Blue 400SE. He has now owned this for over a year and says that apart from wanting to respray it bright yellow is very happy. With it’s typical Wedge loud exhaust Richard constantly gets praise from everyone (except his neighbours). On runs out even other TVR owners who are 5 and 10 cars behind say they love the sound his V8 Wedge makes!
Beginning working life as a Computer Programmer, Richard now runs his own Print and Design Company doing a full range of print. He also specialises in printing Patient Menus for many of the largest NHS Hospital Trusts all over the country.
He has been happily married to Janice for 21 years and has a 19 year old son James at Northumbria University and William, 16, doing his GCSEs. Both love runs in his car and other friend’s TVRs and want a TVR each in the future.
Richard is an ex biker and also has his PPL (Private Pilots Licence) but now prefers the ease and convenience of jumping in his Wedge in his T shirt and shorts and blasting the cobwebs away on runs out in the local Yorkshire countryside. He was taught by an ex Police Class 1 Driving Instructor and became a member of the Institute of Advanced Motorists.
Richard Senior
Richard Senior joined the Club in November 1998. By background a Chartered Chemical Engineer (reminiscent of the Peter Wheeler theme!) working for a Bradford based speciality chemical company. At 25 years old, his heart was set on owning his first performance sports car, having owned up to then three Rover Metro’s! It HAD to be a TVR, and Rover V8 based owing much admiration to his father’s Rover SD1 Vitesse he remembers from his teenage years which kick started the “noise bug”.
He first attended the West Yorkshire meets under John and Pat Horne’s reign. 6 months of meeting owners and their cars led to his first TVR purchase in April 1999 – a 1993 Kreg V8S in Avus Blue; a delight to own, loud and distinctive, with that offset bonnet bulge. Everyone always remembers their first TVR, but after 4 years of ownership, it was time to move up the “league”, another TVR of course!
With his V8S sold on, in March 2003 he acquired a Griffith 500 in Starmist blue/magnolia combination. Having always loved the Griffith profile, it remains Richard’s current TVR, a second ‘fun’ car to his Puma.
Gradually, Richard took more of an active “committee” role within the region, organising some outings and producing the Sprint reports from January 2005 onwards and was elected as Primary RO in Jan 2008, with “Stella” and Jo Binns providing Deputy support. Another reshuffle in September 2008, saw Richard Lee step into the RO Deputy shoes.
Richard, currently single, lives in Dewsbury with father Stuart, and Merlin their 5-year old blue merle rough collie. Away from work and TVRs he remains a true petrol head regularly visiting car shows (Max Power, Autosport, MPH etc) and has appeared in the studio audience of ITV’s “Used Car Roadshow”. A Leeds karting club member, he has followed British GT/F3, Touring Cars and the Tuscan Challenge for many years and as an F1 fan, he has visited Spain, Monaco, Silverstone, Spa and Monza circuits. He still has to conquer Le-Mans and Zolder though !
We see our goal as RO’s being to promote regional presence through increasing membership, by offering a diverse range of events to cater for all TVR member’s tastes. Above all though, its challenging, rewarding and you get to meet lots of interesting people from all walks of life.

I have been a petrol head all my life and owned most of the cars that we ‘Baby Boomers’ yearned after. In my distant past I used to compete in night, road rallies in a very quick Mini Cooper and of all my old cars, that is the one I wish I had kept.I first came into contact with TVRs when I visited the factory with a team of Aerospace Design engineers as part of our policy of meeting and linking with local industries. I left a changed man, hooked on the shape and the sound of the cars. After a good few years and following a health scare, which really does focus the mind, I read a magazine featuring the T350. I fell in love with the shape and especially the vented rear panel and said to my wife Ann, “I think I will get one.” That was the moment my second childhood began! I joined the Blackpool Region in late 2004 and enjoyed the runs out and social life that was associated with the club. By then I had taken early retirement and having some spare time I volunteered to manage the Blackpool Region Website. This brought me into contact with the R.O. John Mleczek and I just sort of fell into organising a few events and helping in running the region. John has recently had to stand down because of work commitments so here I am. Somewhere along the way I have also acquired a 350SE and a half share of a Tasmin racecar, which we are going to use for track days and Sprints. I guess now whichever way you cut me I bleed TVR! So that’s me now for the region. Right from my first visit to the club I have found the members very friendly and helpful and they have all become a big part of my life. We try to organise something for everyone and as well as the usual social events, runs out and visits to local shows etc, we now organise at least one long weekend away every year. Our most recent trips being to Scotland and the Isle of Man. The membership seems to grow steadily and the new blood brings new ideas and long may it continue. Any regrets? Only that I wished I had bought a TVR and joined the Blackpool region sooner!
Deputy RO: Russ Larcombe I saw my first TVR when I was in my 20s, a Tasmin I think. I went to Christopher Neil’s in Cheshire to go and buy one but realised they were at that time out of my reach. Time roles forward to 1995 and I was invited to a TVR track day that was run by Seimen’s Controls at Oulton Park. Here I drove a Cerbera, and S3 and a Griffith. That is where the bug bit and I spent the next 6 years working towards the day when I could own one. By this time I was already living in Blackpool due to my job so I attended Back Home 2000 as a non-TVRCC member. I remember walking down Bristol Avenue gazing at all the different Griffith interiors. I bought a blue, Griffith 500 in 2002 and joined the Blackpool Region of the TVRCC never expecting it would provide such an active social scene locally and around the country. I have many memorable moments in the intervening years, dining with Trevor Wilkinson, Peter wheeler bringing the first Typhon to Back Home 2004, watching the Eclipse race team at Brands in their T440 and of course the drives out, the shows, meeting people, and the whole TVR experience. In 2004 I bought another Griffith 500 in Rolex blue, made in 1999. I loved the colour and the purple and grey and leather interior and the factory maintained it until its closure. The 2 service guys, Paul Forest and Heath Briggs still maintain my TVR today. Now though it’s a Sagaris and yes you guessed correct… it’s Rolex Blue with lots of purple leather I have helped organise several Back Homes and helped John Mleczek for several years with events and the running of the region. I am pleased to become Assistant RO as the running of a region is very much a 2-person activity these days. I like the full variety from race meetings to driving tours to shows and other social events and look forward to 2010s region events including a trip to the IOM and of course BNG / Back home in September 10.

I lived in Bispham at the north end of Blackpool as a child, less than two miles from the factory, going to a school less than a mile from Bristol Avenue and so was aware of small TVR coupes from an early age. I didn’t own a sports car in my youth although I managed to drive one or two. As with many of us, marriage and a family came along and practicality demanded a sensible family car…..well, not too sensible. I do remember driving in the Lakes when I spotted a 3000S with the top down, going in the opposite direction. The driver’s arm was nonchalantly resting on the door top. I wanted to drive that car in the sunshine in those beautiful surroundings. I still do!
Years later I started looking for a 3000S. They were well beyond my budget.
At about that time, I went with my wife Janette, my younger son Neil and his friend, to Donington to watch the TOCA shootout. The day was an unmitigated disaster and the racing processional. Then, to cap it all, we spent 2 hours in a traffic jam owing to a faulty traffic light. This was where my plan changed. We were following a V8S! We had the windows down and the roof open to catch every nuance of that glorious sound. After a while I turned to Janette and said “If I can’t have a 3000S, I want one with a V8.”
So began the task of finding a 350i. I had that car for six years and went everywhere in it, even shopping.
I now have a pre cat Griffith; fantastic!
From the outset, I have always tried to do my bit by helping out with events etc. and when it was discovered that no one had registered as RO for some time, I was persuaded to have a go. That was several years ago; I don’t recall how many. Janette has always helped and encouraged me, where would I be without her?
I am delighted to welcome Simon Smith as Deputy RO and hope that we see you at a GMMC Meet soon.
Deputy RO: Simon Smith: My ownership of TVR started when I thought I would cheer myself up with a quick look in the local car dealer who had some tasty cars at times. Well there she was. A beautiful, S3 in pearl grey-green, with cream interior. It was love at first sight and the sound of the V6 with little silencing sealed the deal. My wife was well impressed and suggested I slept in it to get accustomed to the car (I think that’s what she meant!). Not long in to ownership I just had to have the body off to sort out the chassis. Both side riggers and the rear suspension mounts had turned to dust. Whist apart, the Cosworth YB turbo unit I had spare as well as a T5 box were installed and I had a very interesting S3. Completely hooked and looking for more power, I found a Griff 500 ‘in need of finishing’ and a second restoration started. When completed a very nice car but you soon get used to the power available and I always had itchy feet. Well, along came a 2-year-old Tamora with cat D history but at £15k I just couldn’t say no. With a 100hp Nitros oxide kit I fitted, it went quite well. However as I was sprinting all previous TVRs and this one as well, I was concerned at the potential cost of writing it off and looked for a cheap project car (there is no such thing as I should have known by now) which came in the shape of a 450 Chimaera and yes you guest it, it needed full engine build, re-spray etc. The Chim was sold and I was over TVRs. I embarked on an MG Midget rebuild, almost finished now, to eventually go historic rallying. No more TVRs for me. That lasted all of 3 months. I just couldn’t be without one, just wasn’t complete (you know the feeling). Missing the Tamora, I thought a Tuscan would be just about ideal but couldn’t afford one. Until I saw a 2000, W reg that needed some TLC, but was basically sound and came at the right price. Great to return to a speed six engine and this had recently been rebuilt and went like the wind. So a body re-spray and a broken seat later I have a very nice car that I hope will stay with me until I can afford a Tuscan 2. During my ownership years I have been to the best race tracks in the country and a place called Nurburg with a 13 mile ring, France on tour, sprinted up beautiful hillclimbs, drives out, club dinners, club nights and met the most friendly bunch of people all smitten with the same bug. What other marque could do that. After all these years of enjoyment and near divorce I though I should put something back, so when Paul asked for a Deputy RO I couldn’t think of a good reason not to; just waiting for my badge to arrive!

First of all I have a confession! Much to the amusement of my wife Sue, I used to be one of those guys who on seeing a TVR, opened my window to listen to that wonderful growl. This obsession eventually paid off on a special birthday (50 years young) when my family hired me a TVR Chimaera for the day. As you will all understand, my next thoughts and discussions turned to how can I afford one.
I bought my first TVR in 2004 after joining the Lancashire Region and receiving expert help from Rob Ingleby to find a 4.0 Chimaera in red with cream interior. This was a great car for the two years that I owned it before trading it in with Ceiceley Continential in 2006 and buying my current Mark 1 Tuscan, once again in red with cream interior (think there’s a trend developing here).
Anyone selling a Mark 2 Tuscan in red with cream interior! (only joking Sue).
Now you would think that being the proud owner of such a great car would be enough, but the other thing that came with buying a TVR was the great social life that now goes with being in the TVR fraternity. Sue and I have made some great new friends and have also enjoyed some superb trips including a visit to the Champagne region, a tour of Ireland were we were joined for part of our trip and lots of beer and wine by Jerry and Jackie and other members from the region, along with a recent tour of Scotland where we were followed by Ian Jones’s rain cloud everywhere. In addition there are a number of Lanc’s members who spend a lot of there own time organising events such as our annual weekend away in the Lakes which concludes with the presentation of the World Famous, TVR, Lancashire Region Oscars. These are awarded for various things such as “The Protect the Environment Oscar” awarded to a Member (identity withheld) who eventually saw the funny side of putting Diesel into his Griff and the “Shammy Oscar” awarded to a member who actually dried his TVR five times in between rain showers at the Tatton Classic Car Show. Also during the five years of owning a TVR Sue and I have attended a number of the national events including Back Home and Rockingham.
My wonderful wife (just had a new clutch in the Tuscan so need some brownie points) and I have been together for the last twenty years and between us have six grown up children and four grandsons so if you add the commitment to our family and our involvement with our TVR friends we enjoy quiet a busy social life on top of my professional career as a company director. Therefore you would wonder why such a busy guy would take on the role of regional organiser.
Well, this became a relative easy decision after a lot of “encouragement” by a large proportion of the Lanc’s members when our stand in RO, Richard Sails, had to go off to Oz to work for 3 to 4 months as this meant attending monthly meetings with no RO.
In addition to me taking up the RO role I am pleased that Alan Humphreys a long standing member with the Lancs region has agreed to be Assistant RO.and on the basis that the Lanc’s Region has always had a large interest in motor sport with members such as Howard Bryan and Gary Lancashire having been and currently involved in racing Tuscans, I will be looking for the support to continue. The Lanc’s region also has a large number of lady members who attend the regular monthly meetings and who organise a number of non-male events, which I am sure will continue!
As we all know clubs are about the members and the level of involvement from the members determines its success. Lancs as a region as always enjoyed a high level of involvement by its members and I hope this will continue and grow.
I am looking forward to my time as RO and will be coming up with new events for members to get involved, along with supporting our local nominated children’s charity.

Jackie and I started the RoI Region 5 years ago after we had a long weekend visit from Suffolk/Norfolk and Mid Essex members in April 2004. The visit came just a couple of months after we had bought our first and still current TVR, a Chimaera 450. I have to say that TVRs are most definately a rare car in Ireland and that was our first experience of driving in convoy with other TVRs. 8 TVRs together certainly do draw attention. We brought a small fishing town called Dingle, in Co Kerry to a standstill with just a few TVRs.
This experience got us to thinking that there must be other TVR owners out here in RoI and if so then we should get in touch and have our own convoys as they were so much fun. We are extremely lucky in RoI to have not only a great variety of different models, but also the finest bunch of nutters, oops sorry, I mean members you would ever like to meet. We also have a very unique challenge amongst all TVRCC regions in that our region covers 26 counties!. And for us the logistics of that always presents the biggest challenge. Since 2004 our members have grown from 11 to over 40 and are spread through 16 different counties. It is really not always possible for members to attend as peoples’ busy schedules often preclude them from the 400 round trip for a day. Having said that we do have a very keen bunch and we will often have 5 or 6 cars regardless of where we meet. Our record has been 13 cars at one meet: fantastic.
The RoI gang also like to play hard, which means that we do not take ourselves seriously at all. We are proud of the fact that our meets invariably include spouses/other halves as the social aspect of the meet is as important as the TVR aspect and that is the way we want this region to continue. A couple of drinks (never was good at counting!) are always consumed at meets and this always livens things up a good bit. Maybe this is the real reason why we end up staying overnight on so many occassions, how bad!
We do not have a fixed meeting venue as we need to move things around a bit. We have meets predominantly between Dublin and Cork, but as the spread of members continues we will move east and west in the hope of bringing at least 1 meet closer to everyone’s location..
Anyone living in Ireland who hasn’t made contact with us to date or anyone visiting us to enjoy the craic please get in touch with me. You are always most welcome and we would love to meet you.

My interest in TVRs was kindled by my father’s 420SE, with that wonderfully sounding Rover V8.
I was looking to buy a sports car around 1990, and this was also the time that the prototype Griffith was shown to the public. The looks just blew me away, plus being power by the same V8 as my father’s wedge it ticked all the right boxes. Unfortunately there was no way I could have afforded one at the time. But this got me thinking about the older models of TVRs, I defiantly wanted one with an engine that had more than four cylinders as they make much more exciting sounds.
The S series met all the right criteria but were just too expensive and wedges had the right engine, but I was not sold on their looks (except the 420/450SEAC but again these were to expensive). The M series range looked much more promising with straight six or V6 engines, attractive looking bodies, available in three different styles and simple to maintain. A 3000S convertible would have been really nice but again these were outside my budget. So I decided on a Taimar, as it would be the most practical version to own. The next decision was do I buy the best that I could afford, which I would then want to improve and upgrade to my tastes, or buy a cheap one that I could rebuild exactly as I wanted.
In the end I bought a cheap one that needed rebuilding. On the 23rd August 1991 I acquired a rather sad looking Taimar ACK916R. The chassis was rotten the suspension was worn out, the paint was blistered and the seats and sunroof were all split. But she was drivable, just! So I drove her on and of the transporter and up and down the driveway, which is as far as she would go for the next two and a half years.
During this time I undertook a complete body of rebuild, replacing, overhauling and upgrading parts as necessary. In the end the only part not to be rebuilt was the gearbox and overdrive unit.
The biggest mistake I made was never going to the monthly meetings until I had finished the car. I discovered that the local members were a mine of information and their knowledge could have saved me a lot of time trying to trace were parts had originated from.
Over the years I’ve had many great experiences with the car but a couple that really stand out are, a fantastic drive back from the TVRCC Mania event in Wales in 1999 Along the A40 between Carmarthen & Monmouth through the Brecon Beacons, and winning the concours competition overall at the Back Home event in Blackpool and having Trevor Wilkinson present me with the trophy.
The list of things to do to the car never seems to get finished, but that’s all part of the fun of owning a car like this.
In 2000 I achieved my ambition of owning a TVR Griffith. It may only have been a 4.0ltr model but it was plenty fast enough for me. Before I owned the car it had, had a lot of money spent on it and it proved to be totally reliable. The best feature had to be the stainless steel sports exhaust system that was fitted to it. The sound of the V8 under hard acceleration was just fantastic, overall the noise level was just right with out being to loud on longer journeys.
Compared with the Taimar the Griffith felt much more solidly built and all of a piece. But you could definitely tell that both cars shared the same bloodline.
The most memorable trips in the Griffith were a summers evening run back from Kent with the top down driving into the setting sun, and following my sister in her Austin-Healey 3000 after its restoration across the Cotswolds on a sunny afternoon.
Unfortunately due to the purchase of a house I had to sell the Griffith. One day I will hopefully own another one preferably a 4.3ltr Ocean Haze version.
I started to attend my local meeting (then know as North London, Herts Beds & Bucks) in 1994 which was run by Colin Parry (now sadly missed) who was always full of whit and wisdom.
Over the years the region moved venues and the name changed to the Buckinghamshire region to reflect its current location. In 2002 Colin decided to step down from being the RO after 23 years in the roll. He asked me if I would like to take over the regains. So with some trepidation I accepted the roll and I’m still here six years later!
Our region seems to have a nice spread of TVR models from 1800s up to Sagaris. But what ever model you own or intend to own you are more than welcome to come along and have a chat.

My earliest vehicle related memory is watching my Dad service our Ford Cortina Estate just before we would go on holiday. He always ended up with a small pile of nuts, bolts and washers left over. He used to say that these were the extras they put it ‘just in case’. His definition of a car was a vehicle to get you from A to B, so motorbikes and cars never really featured in my early years.
My interest probably began when I’d met my other half John, who said he’d teach me the theory behind the phrase, ‘suck, squeeze, bang, blow’. Now this didn’t really turn out to be what I expected, I mean the internal workings of the combustion engine were the last thing on my mind!
I did my ‘mechanical’ apprenticeship standing for long hours in garages watching motorbike engines being stripped down and re-built many a time. After a while we outgrew the bikes and got the car bug. Our first TVR was a red 400SE. I thought at the time it was an old looking car but as soon as I heard the roar of the V8 I was hooked. Since then we’ve had a Griffith 500, 2 Tamoras, a MK1 Tuscan and now the infamous, convertible, orange ‘Sagora’.
We joined the Cambridgeshire region of the Car Club over 10 years ago, which is where I completed my ‘socializing’ apprenticeship and subsequently made some great friends and had some unbelievable adventures with them. These adventures include two holidays which are my best and most favourite to date; the first driving down to Tuscany and the second driving through France, Switzerland and into Germany to meet up with the Blackforest TVR driver’s club.
I’m now in my fourth term as RO for the Cambridgeshire region and with the help of a great team behind me, I still enjoy the organisation side of the role. Some people say it comes naturally to me as I’m such a bossy person, personally I think it’s down to the fact that if I’m having a good time I want everyone else to have a good time as well!
The biggest event I’ve been involved in organising is the BSG being held this August at the Shuttleworth collection in Bedfordshire. It’s taken a lot of behind the scenes work, as any event does and I know that it is going to be a fantastic weekend. All I need is for the sun to shine, for everyone to come along and enjoy themselves….or else!

My association with the internal combustion engine started at the early age of three, when I used to sit on my mother’s lap and steer the tractors on the family farm. By the age of five I had my own Mini van that I used to drive around the fields, terrorising the sheep and mowing down any thistles in my path. Until I was legally able to drive on the road I used to be given the Mini vans used by the farm once they became too expensive to repair. Unlike most of my school friends, who would save up their pocket money for the latest Action Man, I was saving to buy petrol at fifty pence a gallon; oh dear, showing my age now.
Once I passed my driving test there was no stopping me and like most young males thought everything I drove was a racing car and got up to some fine antics. My oldest friends like to remind me of the time I overtook a Police car whilst reversing up a hill but that’s another story.
What convinced me to buy a TVR was a ride in a brand new 390SE that one of my brother’s friends had purchased. The hunt was on and after months of searching I discovered a 1983, Tasmin 350i, A699RUB, in the same colour as the one featured in the Sprint, December 2009. I kept this car for nearly eight years, a record for me.
I had been a Club member for a couple of years when I received an invite to the inaugural meeting of the East Sussex region in 1994. Simon Lacey and Simon Cole were forming the new region. From memory there were something like fifty TVRs turn up and one Ferrari Dino. At that time the factory was in its hay day with the Chim and Griff production. This is when the members gave me my ‘Bodmin’ name because there were five or six Richards in the group and I had more hair then.
Around this time I sold my 350i for the chance to buy a 400SE. No matter what that car threw at me I only had to hear the exhaust note and all was forgiven and had some very memorable trips to Le Mans in that car, which I still own.
Then, about five years ago I could not miss the chance of purchasing a very low mileage, Griff 500.
The East Sussex region is now in its sixteenth year and I have been a regular attendee to the meets barring illness or being abroad. Apart from Simon Lacey, I am the only remaining member from that original meet all those years ago. In 2004, the then RO Andy Davies, decided to stand down and numerous people put my name forward to take the reins. After a vote by the members I accepted the position.
Like most regions we have our ups and downs in membership numbers as Life priorities change, but last year we had a steady flow of new members and I am proud of the number of regular members who have continued their membership even though they no longer own a TVR anymore.
I am a firm believer that the Club must remain an enthusiast’s club and not an owner’s club, if its longevity is to be maintained.
So if you are ever down in this neck of the woods please drop in on a Club Night and say hello….. we don’t bite!

I first came across a TVR in 1990 when my neighbour and fellow petrol head bought a brand new, bright red TVR S3. I owned a Ford Escort, RS Turbo at the time (I was very young!) and we used to race through the lanes of Dartmouth in Devon. I was also heavily influenced by a good friend, (Portishead) from the Bristol region. He had a (very leaky) Wedge, followed by a brand new Chimaera then a nearly new Cerbera.
A fully certified petrol head, I started driving performance cars as soon as I could afford the insurance cover. Over the years I have gone through different phases with my taste in cars; I experienced a German phase – with BMW and Audi, a Japanese phase – with Subaru Impreza and Honda Integra Type R – and a British phase, which kicked off with a Lotus Elan and is now continued with TVR. My wife Jackie has been a very patient supporter of my ‘habit’, noting that I probably could have paid off the mortgage with all the money that I have spent on cars, but realises nevertheless that it is part of my DNA!
I was drawn by the need to own a V8 powered sports car with bags of character. Memories of the sound, idiosyncrasies with and affection for TVR came flooding back and there I was; well and truly hooked. I have owned my Starmist Blue 4.0 Chimaera for 3 years.
The hunt to find exactly the right one was an exciting, yet testing time as there were quite a few challenging examples around. However, primed with a huge amount of research and with my good mate Colin, a legend when it comes to all things automotive (even if he does drive a Ferrari!) I managed to get the right one. Aside from a replacement fuel pump and fuel lines the car has been utterly reliable, with services only involving the usual consumables. So, owning the car has surpassed my expectations.
I even smile in the winter when the Tiv is mostly in storage mode as I know that it’s only a matter of time before it is back on the road. Nevertheless, every opportunity to use it during the winter periods is taken, as it would be daft not to indulge in the grin factor when ever possible.
Having recently taken on the job as RO, very ably supported by the Deputy RO Mike Westaway and a superbly motivated committee, I look forward to Hampshire going from strength to strength. Our region is very active and we enjoy visiting and being visited. The secret of our success is HP; Horse Power and Happy People, which makes being part of this club such a pleasure.
Deputy: Mike Westaway My first introduction to TVR was in the 60’s when one of Cliff Richard’s Shadows lived in the next village to mine. I lived at the top of the hill in Catherington and he lived in the valley about one and a half miles away. You could hear the sound of him driving in our direction as clear as a bell, giving me enough time to run along to the junction and watch him flash past. I would never forget the WOW factor I felt at that time. After several years of following petrol head events, driving various fast cars and running my own business I felt it was time invest in my dream car, a TVR. Then came the challenge to find one. After many models, styles, colours and numerous test drives I couldn’t find ‘the’ one and had almost given up. Plus the fact that my beloved wife is ever so slightly, vertically challenged, she needed to see beyond the wiper blades, as this was an adventure we were both going to enjoy. Whilst driving from London in June 2006 I decided to be flash and show an employee what a TVR looked like in the flesh, having kept up a non-stop commentary on my fruitless search. Our detour took us to Fenhurst Motors and it suddenly hit me, there was the one for me. A freshly polished Crimson Red Metallic, Chimaera 450, Facelift convertible, fitted with Cerb seats was sat in a prime position just waiting for me. I was like an excited school kid unable to get home quick enough to tell Carole. The deal was done that night! My first adventure with the Hampshire club was the ‘London Thunder’ run. The weather threw everything at us that day short of a tsunami! However, the true grit of the marque infected everybody such that London was full of a true British sportscar, alive and roaring. Since then we have participated in numerous events both in the UK organising our own events in the club, with neighbouring regions and abroad (I managed to tick-off the Nurburgring at last). At the heart of this successful club are its members and for the past 4 years the friendships that have been formed are second to none. They all gather for the marque, not the pound in the pocket and come from all walks of life. This is the main reason for my participation as a Deputy RO; to help retain the bond of friendship that the Hampshire club has within its membership.

I suppose that I owe my obsession with TVRs to a corroding MGBGT! The latter was my sole transport and I was looking to replace it with another sports car that was more resistant to the ravages of the tin worm. In 1979 TVR seemed to be a rational choice, fibre-glass was at least corrosion resistant, the Vixen or 1600M both had economical 1600 Ford engines and were within my limited budget, while I could put my smallish dog in the back! All very sensible. I was then living in Dorset and met Ian Massey Crosse at the TVR Car Club stand at the Yeovil Festival of Transport. Enthusiasm and impatience (I was required to have a car for my job and I had sold my MG privately) triumphed over common sense so I bought a sad 1600M from a London dealer. I then joined the Club (thanks Ian) met some great people, then bought a much better and highly tuned Vixen S3. This was my sole car at the time, so was used daily for commuting and even for my job itself as well as more pleasurable weekend pursuits. The Vixen and I were doing 14000 miles per year, when I became RO for Dorset reviving a moribund meeting at the Worlds End, and meeting more great people. I then relocated to Yorkshire; the Vixen was followed by a 3000M, 2500M, and S1. These were still my only cars; this was a struggle as due to financial constraints none of them were in then first flush of youth or in the best of condition. Years passed and somehow a Griffith 400 was purchased as an adrenalin rush, but the daily driver had by then evolved into yet another cheaper TVR. A 280iFHC, then an S3C fulfilling this role, my thinking at the time was that these were as cheap as a sensible car and I only needed 2 seats so Why not? Using older TVRs as daily drivers required dedication, to ensure they were available for work was always a challenge, and weekends were always busy with maintenance. I was by now on Christian name terms with Jim Overend [Parts Manager] and Gareth Milner [Service Manager] at Harrogate Horseless Carriages, both being an invaluable resource in obtaining increasingly scarce parts and technical advice. Thanks guys I couldn’t have done it without you! I influenced my partner Yvonne into buying a running restoration in the shape of an early Tasmin, although a house project ultimately pushed that into the background so it was eventually sold to finance a new bathroom. It later took to the tracks in the Tasmin Race series, pity when I had put a lot of effort getting the pop-up headlights to function properly, as well as replacing the heater matrix! We were now periodically attending the West Yorkshire, Yorkshire & Humberside and North Yorkshire meetings, enjoying the company of yet more great people. We bought a rather nice Taimar for Yvonne, and re-commissioned it after it had been off the road for a few years with the help and support of Ian Bannister, without whom my limited technical ability would have been unequal to the task. My faithful Griffith 400 was eventually replaced by a Griffith 500. We relocated to Kent, with 3 x TVRs and Yvonne’s Panther Lima. RO again, I initially established a new South Kent meeting at the Three Tuns Inn, Staple.
We have since moved on to The Five Bells, The Street, East Brabourne, Ashford, Kent TN25 5LP.
I've still got my Griffith and while we rationalised our collection in 2008 due to financial pressures, we've recently bought a Chimaera to stop the Griffith getting lonely - why else?

I live in Brightlingsea, a small coastal town in Essex with my husband Gerry and my daughter, Ellie 14 and my son Ben, 13.
In November 2009 after months of searching, Gerry managed to find a salvage TVR and bought it whilst I was out shopping. I was rather surprised when I returned home as I didn’t actually know he was going to buy one (I thought he was just looking). We made a make shift garage in the garden and Gerry, Ellie and Ben spent from December until May in the garage every spare minute of the day and night.
When the car arrived it didn’t really have a front and I wasn’t too sure, I didn’t really know a lot about TVRs, but it had been Gerry’s dream to own one. When I looked at it I thought it looked a bit of a mess and was worried that it couldn’t be put right but I was wrong it turned out lovely in the end and the transformation when the car came back out of the garage was quite amazing.
We joined the club in December and Gerry phoned the RO who arranged to take us to the meet at the Forresters in February. We were really surprised how friendly everyone was and had a lovely afternoon, looking at all the TVRs. I was quite emotional at the site of all the TVRs coming down the drive and from that moment on became quite excited at the prospect of one day being in our own TVR.
The car was ready at the beginning of June and as Ellie had done the majority of the work on the car with Gerry, he took her in the car to the club and I followed behind with Ben, who was taking videos and pictures. We had a smashing time at the club and then the next week went to the Hylands House car show. During the summer we exhibited the TVR at Walton car show, Clacton Carnival car show and in September our first Brightlingsea car show. We also went out on lots of day trips and had a great time and had lots of people coming up asking all sorts of questions about the car.
Pauline approached me in December to ask if I would like to become the new RO for Mid Essex, I had enjoyed organising those local car shows and I know that all the members are very friendly and all willing to help organise events, so I thought “Why not, lets give it a go”. Also, with the help of John and the three Amigos (and Pauline has promised she will be on hand to help with any problems) the club will be able to run as well as it has under Pauline’s wing, I am hoping that if any of you have any ideas for new events they can be discussed at the meetings and hope we all have a fun year.
Deputy RO: John Gilford
I guess that my love of cars started from a very early age when as a youngster I loved to help my dad at home in the garage taking apart just about any sort of machinery.
He was an engineer/toolmaker and came from the old school which believed that pretty much anything could be repaired or remade to keep various bits of machinery working.
This sort of lead to me in my teens becoming pretty fanatical about bikes, cars and just about any form of transport which moved and made a noise.
My first real recollection of TVR comes from when a friend bought a really nice 3000M, it sounded great and looked wonderful. This car stood out from the Fords, Vauxhalls and even the MG’s as something unique, something which was a step from the ordinary.
Many years passed, during which I was the owner of several Triumphs (2 and 4 wheeled varieties) which gave great fun and invariably kept me busy at weekends.
Eventually after more years and a period of driving standard family cars, I started to feel the urge to get behind the wheel of something interesting again.
This led me to look around several Marques but nothing really hit the spot until one weekend I passed a TVR garage and my partner Catherine said “that looks nice” pointing to a deep green Chimaera.
The rest is history, I love the car, what it stands for, its pedigree and also the surprise of how great and friendly the TVRCC is. Of all the highlights of owning a TVR, its the Club which has been the hidden gem.
I feel that the Club gives an incredible level of support to members both new and old and this ranges from technical help through to friendship, meetings and social events.
I would like to thank everyone who works so hard to make the Club what it is today and am looking forward to contributing to this as Deputy RO of the Mid Essex Region.

Sara and I took over the Northampton region in September.
We are both from very different backgrounds with Sara’s profession having been for a long, long time (horticulture) and mine being a very recent one (Information Technology). It just goes to show that the power of TVRs is not just horse power but the power to bring different people together.
Interestingly we have both had our respective TVRs for around seven and a half years.
Sara’s partner, Jez, was looking for a sports car for his midlife birthday. The final decision was between a Mustang and a TVR. The latter was decided on due to the Mustang being too wide and long to fit in the garden, which had to be redesigned for the car to fit in anyway. It must have been a lucky coincidence that Sara does garden design as part of her job. Having considered an S2 his heart took over and a Tasmin won the day.
Sara (and Jez) are handling the motorsport and the ‘eating out’ side of the region, as these are two of their favourite past-times (and I am not referring to a burger by the track in this case). Along with this Sara is also helping out as and when.
They visit a lot of the TVR Championship races and know a lot of the circuits, including the best spectator spots.
If you like drives out to restaurants and motorsport keep an eye on the regional reports and regional forum for dates.
I am very thankful for Sara volunteering (maybe ‘being volunteered’ would be a better term) for the position of Secondary RO and helping out organising things. It is brilliant having someone else coming up with ideas and being there to bounce off ideas.
My story begins long ago when I was a young lad when I saw a TVR for the first time. From then on I always liked them. My first foray into two seater, convertible sports cars was when I was 19 (which does not seem that long ago... to me) and my Chevette had just been written off in an accident, which involved a transit van pulling out across me. I was therefore looking for a replacement car and coincidently friends of my parents were selling a sports car. This turned out to be a Triumph Spitfire 1500 (which is still part of the fleet) and the die was starting to be cast. On my stag weekend when my best man was kind enough to hire me a Ferrari for the weekend, which was a big surprise, another person hired a Chimaera. I knew this was the one for me. Later that year I was in the lucky position to be able to purchase one, on the understanding that my wife liked the colour... which turned out to be yellow. It is my ‘day to day’ car and gets used in all weathers, including snow recently, but I do try and keep this to a minimum as although it is only a four litre engine it can still be a handful on the white stuff.
The TVR has almost become part of the family with both my daughters enjoying doing things with it. This includes:
Maintenance - although their input is limited as they are five.
Going for drives in it - they have advised us that I drive it faster than my wife.
And washing it. They are acutely aware that if the sponge falls on the floor I have to wash and check it before they use it again. They are also very helpful when washing the lower parts of the car as it saves me bending down.
My daughters also told my parents when they were four that we are getting a Cerbera ‘which is a TVR with four seats so that we can all go out to TVR things together’ (I can keep wishing) so I think that they have the TVR bug already.

When Pauline our illustrious and heavily persuasive National ROCo finally met up with me at Beaulieu, she blackmailed me into doing an RO profile about myself and the Oxford region of the Club.
The Oxford region had fallen by the wayside and a few years ago a very brave guy called Tom wrote to all members to see if we could restart the club and I remember well the first meeting and the first outing to Llangollen in Wales, because there were only four people in attendance; far cry from the fifty plus we have today!
Tom and Nigel ran it for a year until it landed in my lap and I was keen to give it a real go and be aware of the need to deliver to TVR owners in Oxfordshire something more than a club about cars, petrol head discussions and toothbrush clean engines, (none of which I have any knowledge whatsoever!)
The club today welcomes owners and their wives, girlfriends, dogs, cats and new babies and the atmosphere at all meetings and organised trips is very much the people first with the cars being the common reason we all get together. Don’t think that the car is not important as we all love our TVRs and some of us polish them, tune them, paint them, rebuild them and eat sleep and drink them, but it’s the friendships that have developed that makes the Oxford region so special. One of our members wives summed it up when she advised us that the best thing she had ever done was persuade her husband to buy the TVR as their life had been totally changed by the experience of club membership. That’s quite an accolade for the TVR marque and the people who drive them.
So that’s the Oxford Club, but I know Pauline likes to get the RO to open up about oneself. Well, I have been around on the planet for a few years and always wanted a TVR and being rather tall and wide, l could only really fit into the Chimaera which the late Peter Wheeler designed with me in mind, so 15 years ago I bought my dream car and it’s still with me today. If I ever win the lottery I would simply have the whole car stripped down into bits and have everything refurbished or replaced as I cannot imagine not having my Trevor in the garage (yes we all have pet names for our cars but seldom admit to it in print.)
I live in a lovely village on the border of Oxfordshire and South Northants and my home becomes the venue for the annual Barbie party, which follows the Endurance Karting Day, so my neighbours know how hard TVR owners love to party. I am a Scot by birth, and came down on my ‘educate the English’ sabbatical over 40 years ago, and am still working hard to finish the job. I am retired now having spent a life seeing the world on business, and wherever I went the two things that always made good conversation were my love of rugby, and the fact that I owned a TVR. It never fails to amaze me just how global the brand is and how the style of the car and the noise from the engines sets peoples blood racing.
I have strange mixture of vehicles alongside the TVR, with a lovely little Mini Cooper S, an old VW Campervan and a sad old mans Harley Davidson, Fatboy, (if the name fits then ride it!)
My partner and I find it difficult to decide which one to use when the time permits, but without doubt if the sun’s up, no matter which month of the year, then it’s roof off and out for the day in the TVR as the wind in her hair (I don’t have any left) and the deep burble of the exhaust helps to make the problems and issues of the moment just blow away.
We both enjoy the company of the regional members and are aware that without the TVR we would not have met so many truly genuine and lovely people. We arrange one big outing every month, excluding January and February, and they have included trips away to Honfleur in France, Bruges in Belgium, Lllangollen in Wales, alongside the old favourites of Westonbirt Arboretum, Bowling Night, Silverstone Classic, Karting and Barbie and of course our now famous Xmas Party and Awards Weekend where everyone is terrified that they will win the coveted Golden Turkey award !!
So that’s about it, the TVR Oxford Region and me the RO, what we do and how we do it. Nothing new really, just a group of like minded car enthusiasts enjoying their passion and the company of their friends. If you live in Oxfordshire and own a TVR then why not come along and join in the fun. The TVR is much more than just a car; it’s part of life itself.

I have the pleasure of being the Regional Organiser of the SE London & NW Kent region of The TVRCC.
I live in Bromley with my wife Carrie (the best map reader in the world) and our daughters Vicky and Laura.
I am a timber merchant with depots based around London.
I remember seeing my first TVR when I was in my teens and it was love at first sight, I had to have one! It took a little longer than I planned but buying my first Griffith several years ago was a life’s ambition realised, however I had no idea how owning the car would have such an effect on life.
Since joining the club and becoming an RO (how on earth did that happen?) we have met some wonderful people who have become great friends and our social diary is very busy throughout the year. We do several thousand miles a year in the Griff, usually with quite a few others in convoy on our way to an event or just out for a drive and a bite to eat.
If you would like to know more about our region please get in touch, or better still come to one of our meets as new members are made most welcome. Please don’t be shy as we would love you to join us.

By day, Steve and I are an I.T. contractor and a Biochemist turned education advisor respectively. By night, we are the dynamic duo or RO's for the Surrey Region as we're better known. We became RO's in 2002 just after returning from our first trip to the Le Mans 24 hours. This was one year after purchasing our first TVR, a beautiful Camel Yellow 5 litre Chimaera from Hawthorn's of Farnham. The best toy shop in town.
Over the past six years the region has gone from strength to strength. We have participated in and run a wide variety of events including local charity car shows, Wings and Wheels at Dunsfold (the home of Top Gear), Brooklands TVR Day, group meals, various european trips plus the infamous Le Surrey Runs. For TVRs 60th anniversary we pulled out all the stops and lead 44 TVRs from far and wide to the heart of the Champagne region on our "Diamonds are Forever!" celebration tour. I can't really talk about Surrey without mentioning our mascot, the irrepressible Monkeh. Either love him or hate him, he certainly raised the region's profile.
The Surrey region is as much about the people as it is the cars. Whether you have a classic model, a more modern design or a dream, you'll be welcome here. Our weapon of choice these days is a black Cerbera 4.5 so follow the noise and join in the fun.

I’ve been interested in cars for many years but it wasn’t until early 2006 that I decided that I ought to do the right thing for a man of my years and suddenly have an irrational desire to own a sports car. It seemed like the right ‘mid-life crisis’ thing to do, as I was married with two children and had two available garages. So off I went on to Autotrader and Pistonheads and started looking at all manner of well-made German sports cars beginning with the letters P and B. But that didn’t seem quite exciting enough and I’d already owned lots of German cars, so I decided I’d look at British sports cars and eventually came to the TVR section. I remembered I’d always thought these looked cool, the figures said they were fast and they therefore looked far more exciting than the other options. The local ‘TVR Club’ also met at my local pub and I remembered admiring them there a few months previously. Excellent, I just needed to decide which model to get now. As a family man, the Cerbera was the obvious choice, so I bought a Tuscan because I liked the look of it! So there I was the owner of a pretty impractical, stupidly fast, reputably unreliable and fantastic looking British sport car; all the ‘mid-life crisis boxes’ ticked then!
I can rarely do things by halves so within a few months I ended up taking photographs at meetings and updating the local club website. Then I got involved with organising events and meetings. As I was now out and about doing club stuff at weekends more and more I realised I wasn’t spending enough time with my family. I was left with two choices; either reduce the number of car things I was doing, or get a Cerbera as well. Guess which I went for! Well, I still had an empty garage!
As a family, my wife Julia, my two children, Anushka and Harry and I can now be found at numerous club events around the region and beyond. I’m the one with the camera taking photos. Harry’s the little one with the camera taking better photos!
We still have both our TVRs, they’re both blue and they were both originally delivered from the factory in the same month of the same year to the same dealer. And we still have a bit of land on which we could build another garage!
I’ve had a great time these last few years with the club and I’ve just enjoyed a excellent year as RO for the region. This was all made possible because of the great support and enthusiasm I get from Paul Arnold, our Deputy RO, and all the fantastic regional members. They have all been such good fun to be with. I just hope they don’t realise I have no idea what I’m talking about most of the time!
Deputy RO: Paul Arnold Like most young lads I’d always had some interest in cars and couldn’t wait to learn to drive. I was an apprentice electrical engineer when I passed my test and funds were limited, so I did what everyone else in my position was doing, borrowing my parent’s car whilst dreaming of a car of my own! About a year later I bought a bright green TR7 (never mind!). It wasn’t powerful or fast but it was mine and I loved it. A few years later I bought a 1300 Capri. I guess it’s obvious I wasn’t looking for performance in those days! I’d not seen a TVR or even heard of them until I saw the launch of theTasmin on the cover of a magazine. There was something about the car I really liked so I started to read everything I could find on them. After saving cash over the next few years I went to Harrogate Horseless Carriages to see what they’d got. They had the stunning 2.8 Tasmin Turbo prototype, which I could just afford. After a test drive (and a change of underwear!) I went home to think about it and returned a couple of weeks later to collect it, so…not much thinking required! In the 25 years since then, I’ve had 10 TVRs all of them daily drivers. Each time it comes to changing I look elsewhere but never find anything quite as appealing as another TVR. At the moment I’m fortunate to own a Sagaris, which is now a garage queen, and a MK1 Tuscan (known as ‘The Mango’) which I use for work as well as some shows/events. My TVR history is: Tasmin Turbo, 350i, 400SE, 450SEAC, Griff 500, AJP Cerbera, S6 Cerbera, T350C, Sagaris and MK1 Tuscan. I’ve been a member of the TVRCC for 25 years and attended most of the W&WM monthly meets and a lot of events during that time, but had never got involved in organising anything. Around 3 years ago I attended my first East Midland’s event and met a great group of people with whom I get on well. When Tony officially stepped up to be RO he asked me to be deputy and as I couldn’t think of a good reason for saying no here I am! We’ve had a fantastic year and I look forward to 2011.

I became a member of the club before owning a TVR and found it a great resource and help in buying one and have had my Griffith 500 since August 2006. After being heavily involved in another car club I eventually got the itch to get more involved with the TVRCC and took over as RO late 2007.
I thoroughly enjoy meeting likeminded owners and enthusiasts and will happily talk for hours about TVRs, whilst also mindful of the 'other halves' needs to find something to occupy them as well, so our local meets and events are usually well attended by both sexes!
I would like to think that during my ownership I have learned an awful lot about these cars and can be quite handy with a spanner, so technical advice is on hand from the membership and myself too. Please do come along to a meet and see what we are about, a warm welcome is assured.

I first heard about the TVRCC about five years ago and immediately dismissed it as a boring group of old men, discussing wing nuts and tyre pressures. How wrong I was! I went along to my first meeting and met a group of people who loved cars, motorsport and a good laugh; perfect! It didn’t hurt that the RO at the time was a woman who enjoyed a glass of red as much as I did! (Cheers Sharon!)
Ever since I was a young girl I chose toy cars over dolls and I enjoyed nothing more on a Sunday afternoon than watching the F1 with my dad. Those of you who know me will have heard the story of how I went to school with Jenson Button about a million times, so I won’t bore you with it again here!
The first TVR I ever drove was a Griffith 500. I have to confess I knew little of the marque beforehand but all I needed to hear was the engine and I was hooked. That car took me across Europe and over the Stevlio Pass and I met some fabulous friends along the way. My next European adventure was down to Monaco in the beautiful Spectraflair Sagaris of Sprint Editor, Mandy. Considering we’d only met once before the trip, we had an absolute blast and share many happy memories of our “Thelma and Louise” fancy dress road trip!
It was about this time a chap in a black Cerbera turned up at the club meets and our eyes met across a warm V8…
Deputy RO: Iain Cole (aka Optimax Sniffer) Following a motorbike accident in 2006 I found myself craving speed but needing the protection that a car provides. A colleague at work was selling his AJP 4.5 Cerbera and shortly after, I became the proud owner. After a quick internet search I came across the Bristol Region of the TVRCC and turned up at their next meeting not knowing what to expect. Four years on, I have had some fantastic experiences with highlights including the 60th Anniversary at Rockingham, driving the Cerbera around Spa Francorchamps, the Nurburgring, and Castle Combe, where I found my limit before I found that of the TVR! I have also been to Le Mans, experienced the old pit straights at Reims and covered 2500 miles around Germany in a week, all of this without the aid of a flat bed truck! I have also driven some amazing roads around the UK with like-minded people and although I’m not one for public displays of emotion, I guess meeting Sarah has been pretty good too! The future Although the cars are the common denominator and the main reason we all get together every month, the most important thing for us about the car club are the friendships we have made. We have lifelong friends whom we have been lucky enough to meet in our time within the region and the wider TVRCC, and it is a real privilege that we have been chosen to run the Bristol Region. It’s an active region and we aim to keep it that way. We have plenty planned for the coming year, and hopefully something to suit everyone. If there is anything else you want to see, then just let us know and we’ll do what we can, but we need you to tell us what you are looking for from your club. Bristol is a small geographical area so we usually cross over into adjoining regions to explore their roads, and we are always happy when the neighbours come out to play with us; the more the merrier! Most of our meets involve a spot of tyre kicking, some fine roads, and good food, so if you can’t manage a whole day out, you are welcome to pick and choose which bit you join us for. All we ask is that you let us know in advance. We’re still learning about the RO role, but we have the support of some great people. If you haven’t been to a meet before, we urge you to join us. You’re only a newcomer until we know your name, and from then on in you are part of the family, even if it is a slightly dysfunctional one!

Having lived near a TVR main dealer as a young boy I had always longed to own one of the classic British sports cars. Being a teenager of the 80s it was, of course, the big brash Wedges that hooked me and prompted my statement, "I'll be married or driving one of them at 25!”
Well I was right and bought my first TVR at 37! It wasn't one of the brash Wedges but a 1992 S3 in need of some serious TLC.
My first winter consisted of a body off restoration and the establishment of my "Haynes Manual" style website at www.gbsportscar.com to assist other owners of the model. With the car now at a level with which I am (almost) happy and being keen to support the owners club, I have recently taken on some other responsibilities. I am the primary organiser for S Club Heaven, the national single model meet for the S series and now, as Corin has stepped down I have taken on the role of Primary Devon RO. Unfortunately as work often takes me away from home in the week I will be unable to attend or organise the weekday meets and Corin, as Deputy RO will continue to lead these events. However I hope to plan some good weekend events over the coming months. So I hope we meet up soon.

I’ve always been a bit of a petrol head, but mainly into bikes before I grew up.
I knew of TVR’s existence but always thought that the cars were too expensive for me. However, when we visited the 1988 Motor Show and saw the yellow ‘S’, I fell in love with its retro lines and vowed that, one day, I would have one. With two small children it didn’t really seem to be possible, so the dream was shelved until they grew up enough to allow me to consider the possibility of a weekend car. As so often happens, they did, and in 2003, with Wendy softened to the possibility of a toy, we joined the club and began to seriously search for the right car.
There were a few possibles, but nothing really tugged at my heart strings until just before my birthday in January 2004, when we visited David Gerald’s in Inkberrow, primarily to look at an ‘S’ that was advertised. That one had gone and the V8S that they still had was priced at pretty much the same level as a lovely, starmist blue, Chimaera 4.0HC.
Doug persuaded me; why not take the Chimaera for a test drive and that was it, she was mine; the sound of that exhaust was irresistible.
We had two years of joining in the fun with the Cotswold Three Counties region and then, after having lived eleven years in the Midlands, ran away from the kids and moved south.
During our time with the Dorset gang, first Ian and then Chris did a sterling job of bringing us together, but their time came to an end, as is entirely normal. As no one else appeared to be about to volunteer, I took on the mantle of chief rabble-rouser and organiser of trips no one wants to do; it can be a thankless task being RO!
We have had great fun within the club and have enjoyed travels all over, including weekends away and our run over to France last year for the LeMans Classic. Like John, I too have previously had my pride and joy in Sprint, although it would be difficult to identify it, as it was an ‘artistic’ shot I took in July 2004, which appeared in ‘Picture This’ some months later.
Deputy RO: John Hasell I have always had an interest in cars and all things mechanical and after leaving Ballymoney Technical College in N. Ireland, I started employment as an apprentice plant fitter at Altnahinch Dam, Co. Antrim, with my Dad as my boss. This was where, at the age of 17, I learned to drive Land Rovers, TK Bedford tipper lorries and Foden dumper trucks (no Health and Safety here then!) I passed my test, driving my Dad’s Austin A40, which had a 3 speed box and column gear change. Back in England I bought my first car, a 1956 Morris Oxford, moving swiftly on to an A40 Farina and in 1966, a brand new, Hillman Super Imp. I know, whatever was I thinking of buying an Imp. Well, I suppose it’s a bit like owning a TVR, you just love them. Three years later I met Anne, and the Imp was sold to help pay for our wedding. I then joined Cornhill Insurance as a Lift and Crane Engineer Surveyor and for the next 30 odd years Anne and I raised our 3 children. When I joined Cornhill I met Gerald Young, a Morgan enthusiast who was to become a best friend. I joined the Morgan club and wanted one but Anne said, “they cost too much and leak”. I was now well into the ‘mid life crisis’ period. The kids had left home and my break came when Rob Ingleby heard I was looking for a sports car and he had a red S3. As soon as I saw the photos I had to have it. I have owned my S3 for over 10 years and absolutely love it. The highlights have included receiving a hand drawing of my car in recognition of attending all the meets of that year, participating in the ‘parade des pilotes’ on the Friday evening at Le Mans in 2002 and having a full page picture of my car in the November 2002 issue of Sprint. Anne and I have met some lovely people in the club and about 2 years ago when the Dorset RO stepped down for work reasons, Tony took on the RO’s job and I thought that I should give something back by taking on the deputy RO’s job.

Deputy RO: Chris Aston My first involvement with TVR started by sitting in my Westfield on the docks of Cherbourg awaiting my ferry back home from Le Mans. Immediately behind me was a Taimar and, behind that, a 3000M. Following an immediate thought of ‘Wow I like those’ was a detailed conversation with the owners. Being typical TVR enthusiasts I was invited to ‘try it out for size’ and all my questions were eagerly answered. Next step – Westfield sold. Now to look for a Taimar or 3000M. With the help of the club I ended up with a petrol blue 3000M as my first ownership of a TVR. As it came with a spare engine some ‘upgrading work’ was envisaged but investigating the costs of Essex V6 tuning was frightening. However I managed to buy the engine (dyno’d at 200bhp) from a championship winning grass track racer and this was duly fitted with a 5-speed box by a very helpful local garage. Fortunately I have a very supportive partner who spent several days in the back of the ‘M’ (not an easy feat for those who know the model) making templates for the new interior trim and carpets. A new veneered dash (courtesy of my father) and a rear end re-wire completed the job. A planned upgrade to a V8S was dashed by a redundancy but, again with a very helpful partner, we ended up with a beautiful Griff 500, which we have owned now for about 9 years. We have both recently taken on the roles of ROs for the Somerset region and welcome all members, current and new to join us at any time. We will be delighted to meet you. The regions RO Dave Aston has recently stepped down and I am looking after things for the moment. Chris Aston.

I've been mad about cars ever since I first drove my fathers' Ford Prefect on a grass verge during a family picnic when I was 17. He had won on the football pools just enough to buy his first car and learn to drive at 48! A bank loan followed and my first car was a Commer Cob van with side windows and a back seat put in. I have owned a string of cars over the years many sports cars amongst them including Triumph TR4A, Midget, MGB GT, MGC GT, Lotus Eclat, Lotus Elan+2, Subaru WRX and three MX-5's. With the exception of the Scooby I always felt they could all have done with more power until the Chimaera came along. I have always tinkered with all my cars and where possible do running repairs myself. When I had the Elan, what started as a straight chassis change ended up in a totally restored and concours winning car. When I subsequently sold it, it ended up being exported to Japan, no come back there then. My Cooper Green Chimaera was bought from a gu y in London who was a trader and so no real history to gather except it was previously owned by a TVRCC member,. Over the last couple of years I have gradually got it to the point where it runs as cool/hot as it should, always starts first time and is a very useable car with new carpets which I replaced and restored leather. I had always cast an eye at TVR's from the first one I remember (Grantura) through to Roger Connells winning Griffith in Post Historic Racing. I used to work with Roger and he was very, very quick always seeming to end up dicing with an equally quick Cobra. What really drew me to the Chimaera was going to a motoring festival in Hampshire and seeing some beauties from the TVRCC parading around the arena with some Ferraris in tow. After speaking to a guy with a Maroon Chimaera, I was hooked. Especially when I found out how reasonably priced they were, I couldnâ?Tt believe you could get so many bangs for your buck! My wife Elaine always said her favouri te car was a Cerbera and when I started talking about a Chimaera there was no resistance there. Taking on the RO's role has given me a new challenge and I hope I can help in promoting the Marque and along with Colin my Deputy and Paul S our always keen deputy deputy!, arranging some really good events enabling all our regional members to enjoy their TVR's to the full.
Deputy RO Colin Truman
I have always had a passion for cars even before I could drive, I put this down to my dad who was always tinkering with cars in his younger days to keep motoring costs down. When I first met my wife to be, she said she didn't want a normal wedding, she wanted to arrive at the church in a TVR! This was my baptism into Blackpool's finest. This was over 12 years ago, and I still wonder if a hired red Chimaera T208 KAD is still around? Well from that date I started saving for our own TVR, but with house purchase, gaining a stepson and with our own daughter coming along it took a few years to save sufficient funds. Late in 2006 I had enough to purchase a Chimaera with power steering to allow my wife to drive it as she likes to take it out for a blast on a sunny day. Five years on and I am even more passionate about TVRâ?Ts and want to see them on the road being driven and admired.
