Sprint Magazine Deputy Editor - Ray Harris-Hawkins

My love of horse power started from a very early age, from riding horses and steering my grandfather's tractor on his farm, pulling a trailer with a mountain of hay behind me from the age of eight. I started to learn to drive in a Humber Super Snipe, with steering column gear change, sitting on two cushions to enable me to see over the very long bonnet. I continued to learn to drive in a Renault Dauphine and passed my driving test in a Renault Gordini. I joined the Bournemouth Motor Club (BMC) at nineteen years old, enjoying all forms of motor sport. Some of my favourite cars during that era, were a frog eyed Austin Healey Sprite, a Sunbeam Alpine, a Jaguar 2.4 Litre Mk2 Saloon and a Mini Cooper (Fitted with Twin SU Carburettors a racing clutch and wheel spacers).
For years after having had my frog-eyed Sprite and Sunbeam Alpine, I had yearned for another soft top sports car and finally I was in a position to purchase one and I chose a TVR Chimaera, I had only ever seen a couple of Tuscan's before I went to see a Chimaera, it was love at first sight and I knew that this was the car for me as soon as it was started up. The rest is history. I soon joined the Club, then became Deputy RO – Dorset Region. I found a love of writing articles and after a few years, I became the News/new products editor for Sprint. I shall continue in that role, as it is very close to my present position in my role and my current duties as Deputy Editor.

Deputy Editor Role
I see the role of Deputy Editor, working with and giving first hand support to our Sprint Editor, Mandy O'Neale, and our Magazines Creative Designer, Jonathan Lowey, and the editorial team. The responsibilities of the role are enormous and one that I do not take lightly, the team has achieved the award of 'Best Club Magazine 2017' and my aim is to strive to support everyone that is involved as a whole, in what is our continued aim, to maintain high standards in producing our magazine. My duties are to search for articles and news items and to assist contributors when and where necessary.
My committee duties, along with Mandy, are to report to the Committee, about the current position in respect of content and the general running of Sprint. To help make the best decisions for the benefit and welfare for the future of the Club and Magazine. I am a great believer in team work and I shall endeavour to maintain it, as it is very necessary to enable us to achieve the best results.
